Where do the prices come from?

From market and vendor prices we collect and update for Nigerian cities, starting with Lagos. Prices move, so treat anything in a plan as an estimate until you place an order — at checkout you pay the price shown at that moment.

Do I have to connect my bank account?

No. You tell the app what you spent, or it records what you spend on orders placed through it. We never ask for your bank login details.

Is this a diet or medical programme?

No. NaijaBudgetEats is a planning and budgeting tool. It does not diagnose, treat or give medical advice. If you have a health condition, are pregnant, or are on medication, speak to a doctor or a registered dietitian before changing how you eat.

Can I use it outside Nigeria?

You can plan and track anywhere. Grocery and meal ordering is only live where we have delivery partners, and the app will tell you if your address is outside that area.

How do I cancel Premium?

From your app store subscription settings, or by writing to us. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Premium until the end of the period you already paid for.

Food is the biggest line in a Nigerian household budget, and the least planned.

Most people in Lagos know roughly what they earn and have no idea what they eat. Not in calories — in naira. Food money leaves in fifties and hundreds, spread across a week of small market runs, and by the 20th of the month it is gone without a single receipt to explain where.

Every budgeting app we looked at treats food as one number at the end of the month. Every meal-planning app we looked at was built for someone shopping at a supermarket in another country, with a currency that doesn't move and ingredients you can't buy here.

NaijaBudgetEats sits in the gap. You give it a budget. It gives you a month of Nigerian meals that fits inside that budget, priced item by item, in a diet you actually want to follow. Then it tracks both sides — what you ate and what it cost — and, when you would rather not go to the market at all, it delivers the list.

Who we are

NaijaBudgetEats is built by Aventea Labs Limited (RC 8828943), a Nigerian software company based in Lagos. Our other product is Affluent Money, an AI personal finance app. Both come from the same idea: people in emerging markets deserve tools built for the money they actually have, not translations of tools designed elsewhere.

What we will not do

We will not sell your personal data. We will not push extreme dieting, fasting targets or weight-loss claims dressed up as budgeting. We will not quote you one price while planning and a different one at checkout. Where those promises are enforceable we have written them into our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and Use Policy.

Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect what we need to plan your meals, track your budget and deliver your orders. We do not ask for your bank login. We do not sell your data. You can ask to see, correct, export or delete what we hold, and we will do it.

1. Who we are

NaijaBudgetEats is operated by Aventea Labs Limited (RC 8828943), a company incorporated in Nigeria with its office in Lagos ("we", "us", "our"). For the purposes of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 ("NDPA") we are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

2. What this covers

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use the NaijaBudgetEats mobile app, our website, and any ordering or delivery service we offer through them (together, the "Service"), and what we do with it.

It does not cover the practices of other companies whose services you reach from ours — payment processors, app stores and delivery partners each have their own policies.

You can use most of the Service without granting location, camera or contacts permissions. Where a permission is required for a specific feature, the app will say so before asking.

4. What we never collect

Bank login credentials. We do not ask for, and will never ask for, your internet banking username, password, PIN or one-time codes.
Full card numbers. Card details are entered on our payment processor's secure form. We receive only a token and the last four digits.
Your contacts, messages or call logs, unless you expressly choose to share something with us.

5. Why we use it, and our lawful basis

Under the NDPA we must have a lawful basis for each use. Ours are set out below.

We do not use your data to make decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects without human involvement. Meal and budget suggestions are automated, but they are suggestions — you choose whether to follow them.

6. Dietary and health information

Your diet choice, calorie and macro targets, and any allergy or intolerance notes you enter may reveal information about your health. The NDPA treats that as sensitive personal data, and we handle it accordingly.

We ask for it only because the Service cannot plan meals without it.
We process it on the basis of your explicit consent, given when you set up or change your food profile.
You can withdraw that consent at any time by clearing your profile or deleting your account. Withdrawing it means we can no longer generate personalised plans.
We do not share it with advertisers, insurers or employers, and we do not use it to target advertising.

Allergy notes are a planning aid, not a safety system. Always check ingredients and labels yourself, and tell a restaurant, vendor or rider directly about any allergy. We cannot guarantee that a kitchen, market or supplier is free of a given allergen or of cross-contamination.

7. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We share it only as follows:

Payment processors — to take payment and process refunds.
Delivery partners and riders — your name, phone number, delivery address and order contents, only for the order being delivered.
Vendors and markets — the items in an order, so it can be picked and packed. They receive your identity only where it is needed to fulfil the order.
Cloud hosting, database, email, SMS and push-notification providers — who store and transmit data on our instructions under written contracts.
Analytics and crash-reporting providers — in a form that identifies a device or account, to tell us what is breaking and what is being used.
Professional advisers — lawyers, accountants and auditors, under a duty of confidentiality.
Authorities — where we are required by law, a court order, or a binding request from a regulator, or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to prevent serious harm or investigate fraud.
A buyer or successor — if the business, or the part of it that runs NaijaBudgetEats, is sold, merged or reorganised. We will tell you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Everyone we share data with is required to protect it, use it only for the purpose we gave it to them for, and delete or return it when the work is done.

8. Cookies and similar tools

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. Strictly necessary cookies keep you signed in and secure; they cannot be switched off. Analytics cookies tell us which pages are read. Preference cookies remember settings such as light or dark mode. Where the law requires consent for a non-essential cookie, we ask for it first, and you can change your answer at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer.

In the mobile app, equivalent identifiers (such as a device or installation ID) are used for the same purposes. You can reset the advertising identifier in your phone's settings.

9. Storage outside Nigeria

Some of our providers store or process data on servers outside Nigeria. Where we transfer personal data abroad we do so in line with the NDPA — either to a country the Nigeria Data Protection Commission recognises as providing adequate protection, or under a written contract imposing equivalent obligations, or with your consent where that is the applicable basis. You can ask us which safeguard applies to a given transfer.

10. How long we keep it

Where we keep data after you close your account, we keep only what the purpose requires and restrict access to it.

11. How we protect it

We encrypt data in transit using TLS and encrypt sensitive data at rest. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. Access to production systems is restricted to staff who need it, protected by multi-factor authentication and logged. We review permissions regularly, test for vulnerabilities, and keep backups.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the Nigeria Data Protection Commission within the period required by law and tell you directly where the risk is high.

Your part matters too: use a password you do not use anywhere else, keep your device locked, and tell us immediately at security@naijabudgeteats.com if you think someone else has your account.

12. Your rights

Under the NDPA you have the right to:

Be informed about how we use your data — that is what this policy is for.
Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correct data that is wrong or incomplete. Most of it you can edit yourself in the app.
Delete your data where we no longer need it, subject to records we must keep by law.
Restrict or object to processing we carry out on the basis of legitimate interest, including profiling.
Port your data — receive it in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what we did lawfully before you withdrew it.
Opt out of marketing — every marketing message carries an unsubscribe, and push notifications can be turned off in your device settings.
Complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

To exercise any of these, write to privacy@naijabudgeteats.com or use the account settings in the app. We will respond within 30 days. If your request is complex we may extend that once and will tell you why. We may need to verify your identity first, and we will not charge you unless a request is manifestly excessive or repetitive.

13. Children

The Service is for adults. You must be at least 18 to open an account. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we learn that we hold data from someone under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian, we will delete it. If you believe a child has given us data, contact privacy@naijabudgeteats.com.

14. Other people's services

The Service links to and works with third parties — app stores, payment processors, delivery partners, and any social platform you use to sign in. What they do with your data is governed by their own policies, not this one. We suggest you read them.

15. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when the Service or the law changes. The date at the top always shows the current version. For changes that materially affect your rights we will tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated policy.

The short version: use the app for planning and buying food, not for anything illegal or abusive. Prices and plans are estimates until you check out. We are not your doctor. If we get something wrong, our liability is limited. Nigerian law applies.

1. This agreement

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Aventea Labs Limited (RC 8828943), a company incorporated in Nigeria ("we", "us", "our"), covering your use of the NaijaBudgetEats mobile app, our website and any related services (the "Service").

By creating an account, placing an order, or otherwise using the Service, you accept these Terms, our Privacy Policy and our Use Policy, which are part of this agreement. If you do not accept them, do not use the Service.

2. Who can use it

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract. If you use the Service for an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to bind it, and "you" means that organisation. You must not use the Service if we have previously terminated your account, or if the law of your country prohibits it.

3. Your account

Give us accurate information and keep it up to date — deliveries fail on stale addresses.
Keep your password confidential. You are responsible for everything done through your account.
One account per person. Do not share, sell, rent or transfer your account.
Tell us at security@naijabudgeteats.com as soon as you suspect unauthorised access.

4. What the Service is — and isn't

NaijaBudgetEats is a meal-planning, food-budgeting and food-ordering tool. Read the following carefully, because it defines the limits of what we are promising.

Not medical or nutritional advice

Meal plans, calorie and macro targets, recipes and any diet-related content are general information, not medical, nutritional or dietetic advice, and are not a substitute for consulting a qualified professional. We do not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition. Consult a doctor or registered dietitian before starting any new way of eating, and especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are under medical supervision, take prescription medication, or have diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, an eating disorder or any other health condition. If you feel unwell, stop and seek medical attention.

Not financial advice

Budgets, spending summaries and alerts are informational tools based on what you enter. They are not financial advice and we do not guarantee any saving.

Estimates, not guarantees

Prices, portion sizes, preparation times, calorie counts and macro values shown in plans and recipes are estimates, drawn from market data, supplier information and standard food composition tables. Real markets move, portions vary and cooking changes things. The price that binds is the one shown at checkout when you place an order.

Allergens

Ingredient and allergen information is provided in good faith from the information available to us. We cannot guarantee that any meal, ingredient or supplier is free of a given allergen or of cross-contamination. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, verify independently before eating.

Availability

We aim to keep the Service running but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it, and ordering may be unavailable in some areas or at some times.

5. Free and Premium

The Free tier is supported by advertising. The Premium tier costs ₦3,000 per month unless a different price is shown to you at the time you subscribe.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period, and we charge your payment method, until you cancel.
Cancel at any time through your app store subscription settings or by writing to us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period; you keep Premium until then. We do not give partial refunds for an unused part of a period except where the law requires it or where we have failed to deliver the Service.
If we change the price, we will give you at least 30 days' notice. The new price applies from your next renewal, and you may cancel before it takes effect.
Where you subscribe through the Apple App Store or Google Play, their billing, cancellation and refund rules govern the payment, and you may need to deal with them directly.
We may offer free trials or promotional pricing. Unless we say otherwise, a trial converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel first, and promotional pricing applies only for the stated period.

6. Ordering food and groceries

An order you place is an offer to buy. A contract of sale forms when we confirm the order, or when it is dispatched, whichever is earlier. We may decline an order — for example where an item is unavailable, the address is outside our delivery area, we suspect fraud, or a price was listed in obvious error.
Substitutions. Fresh produce and market goods vary. Where an item is unavailable we may offer a substitute of similar type and value. You may choose in the app to allow or refuse substitutions. Where you refuse, we refund the missing item.
Weights and quantities for fresh items are approximate. Where an item is priced by weight, we charge the actual weight supplied within a reasonable tolerance.
Delivery windows are estimates. Traffic, weather and market conditions in Nigeria being what they are, we cannot guarantee a delivery time.
Someone aged 18 or over must be available to receive the order at the address given. If nobody is available and we cannot reach you, we may leave the order in a safe place at your instruction, or return it, and a redelivery fee may apply.
Risk and title in the goods pass to you on delivery.
Check on arrival. Because food is perishable, inspect your order at the point of delivery and raise any problem with the rider or with us immediately, and in any event within the timeframe set out in section 8.
Storage and preparation. Once delivered, safe storage, handling and cooking are your responsibility. Follow storage instructions and use-by dates.

7. Prices, payment and tax

All prices are in Nigerian Naira (₦) and, unless stated otherwise, include applicable Value Added Tax. Delivery and service fees are shown separately before you confirm.
You authorise us and our payment processor to charge your chosen payment method for the total shown, including any adjustment for weight-priced items.
If a payment fails or is reversed, we may suspend the Service or the order until it is settled, and recover reasonable costs of collection.
If a price is displayed in obvious error, we are not obliged to supply at that price. We will tell you and let you confirm at the correct price or cancel for a full refund.

8. Cancellations, returns and refunds

You may cancel an order at no cost before it is picked or dispatched. After that, perishable items cannot generally be cancelled.
Where goods are missing, damaged, spoiled, expired or not what you ordered, tell us within 24 hours of delivery (or immediately at the door for obvious damage), with photographs where possible. We will replace the item or refund it, at your choice.
For reasons of hygiene and food safety, we cannot accept returns of fresh, chilled, frozen or prepared food that has left our control and is not defective.
Approved refunds go back to your original payment method, normally within 7 to 14 business days, depending on your bank.
Nothing here removes rights you have under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 or other Nigerian consumer protection law.

9. Things you post

You may be able to submit recipes, photos, reviews, ratings and notes ("Your Content"). You keep ownership of Your Content. By submitting it you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable and sub-licensable licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, publish and display it for the purpose of operating, improving and promoting the Service. This licence ends when you delete Your Content, except for copies already shared with others, held in backups, or kept where we must by law.

You confirm that Your Content is yours to share, that it is accurate as far as you know, and that it does not break anyone else's rights or our Use Policy. We may remove content that breaches these Terms, but we are not obliged to monitor or review what users post.

10. Our intellectual property

The Service — including the app, website, software, meal-planning engine, recipe database, design, text, graphics and the names NaijaBudgetEats and Aventea Labs and associated logos — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by copyright, trade mark and other laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial purposes, on the terms of this agreement. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, reverse engineer, decompile or create derivative works from any part of it, or extract our recipe or price data by scraping or automated means, except to the extent the law says you may despite this restriction.

11. Acceptable use

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Use Policy, which sets out what is and is not allowed. Breaching it is a breach of these Terms.

12. Third-party services

The Service depends on third parties — app stores, payment processors, mapping, hosting, vendors and delivery partners. We are not responsible for their acts or omissions beyond our own negligence in selecting and supervising them, and your use of their services may be subject to their own terms.

13. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from the app or by writing to us.

We may suspend or terminate your access, with notice where practicable, if you breach these Terms or the Use Policy, if we are required to by law, if your account is being used fraudulently, or if we discontinue the Service. Where we discontinue the Service entirely, we will give reasonable notice and refund any prepaid amount covering a period after the shutdown.

On termination, your licence to use the Service ends. Sections 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 18 and 19 survive.

14. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", and we disclaim all warranties not expressly stated in these Terms, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will meet your requirements, that plans will produce any particular health, weight or financial outcome, or that content will be accurate, complete or current.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or under Nigerian consumer protection law.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, and subject to section 14:

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or anticipated savings, however caused.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in that period, and (b) ₦50,000.

These limits apply whether the claim is in contract, tort, statute or otherwise, and even if we were told the loss was possible.

16. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us and our officers, employees and agents against claims, losses, liabilities and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these Terms or the Use Policy, your misuse of the Service, Your Content, or your breach of any law or third-party right.

17. Changes

We may change these Terms. Where a change materially affects your rights we will give you at least 14 days' notice in the app or by email. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and close your account before the change takes effect; continuing to use it after that means you accept the new Terms. Changes required by law may take effect immediately.

18. Disputes and governing law

Talk to us first. Most problems are settled fastest by writing to support@naijabudgeteats.com. Please give us 30 days to resolve a dispute informally before taking formal steps.

These Terms and any dispute arising out of them are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to conflict of law rules.

If a dispute is not resolved informally, it shall be referred to arbitration in Lagos, Nigeria under the Arbitration and Mediation Act 2023, before a single arbitrator, conducted in English. The award is final and binding. Either party may still apply to a Nigerian court for urgent interim relief, and small claims may be brought in any court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State. Nothing in this clause removes any right you have to complain to a regulator.

19. General

Entire agreement. These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Use Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
Severability. If a provision is held unenforceable, the rest continues in force.
No waiver. If we do not enforce a right, we have not given it up.
Assignment. You may not assign this agreement. We may assign it to an affiliate or to a buyer of the business, on notice to you.
Notices. We may give notice through the app, by email to your registered address, or on our website. Notices to us go to the address in section 20.
Force majeure. Neither party is liable for failure caused by events beyond reasonable control, including power or network failure, fuel scarcity, industrial action, civil unrest, flooding or government action.
Language. These Terms are written in English, which governs.

20. Contact

Use Policy

The short version: use NaijaBudgetEats honestly, treat riders and vendors like people, don't post anything dangerous or that isn't yours, and don't try to break or drain the system.

1. What this is

This Use Policy sets out what you may and may not do with NaijaBudgetEats. It applies to everyone who uses the Service — customers, vendors, riders and anyone posting content. It forms part of our Terms of Use, and breaching it is a breach of that agreement.

It is not an exhaustive list. If something is obviously harmful, dishonest or illegal, assume it is not allowed even if it is not named below.

2. The rules

Do not use the Service to:

Break the law

Commit or facilitate any criminal offence under Nigerian law or the law where you are.
Buy, sell or arrange the supply of anything whose sale is restricted or prohibited — including controlled substances, unregistered pharmaceuticals, alcohol to anyone under 18, bushmeat or wildlife products traded unlawfully, or counterfeit goods.
Launder money, evade tax, or move funds for an unlawful purpose.

Be dishonest

Use a payment method you are not authorised to use, or dispute a charge for goods you received as ordered.
Claim a delivery did not arrive, or was defective, when it did or was not.
Open multiple accounts to repeat free trials, referral bonuses or promotions.
Impersonate another person, a business, a vendor, a rider or us.
Post fake reviews, or pay for or solicit them.

Harm other people

Threaten, harass, stalk, bully or intimidate anyone.
Post content that attacks people on the basis of ethnicity, religion, state of origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation or any other protected characteristic.
Share anyone's personal information — a rider's phone number, a customer's address, a photo of someone — without their consent.
Encourage or depict violence, or content that is sexual, obscene or involves minors in any sexual context.

3. Content standards

Anything you post — recipes, photos, reviews, notes — must:

Be yours, or something you have permission to share. Do not upload copyrighted recipes, text or photographs lifted from books, blogs or other apps.
Be honest. A review should reflect your own experience of an order you actually placed.
Be about food, cooking, budgeting or the Service. Not advertising, not politics, not a link to somewhere else.
Be safe. Do not post preparation methods that are unsafe, or claim an unsafe ingredient is edible.

4. Health and diet content

We take this seriously because food apps can do real damage.

Do not use the Service to promote extreme restriction, prolonged fasting, purging, or any behaviour associated with disordered eating.
Do not post content encouraging anyone to reach an unhealthy body weight, or presenting extreme calorie restriction as a goal.
Do not present yourself as a doctor, dietitian or nutritionist unless you are qualified, and do not give individual medical advice through the Service.
Do not claim that any meal, ingredient or plan treats, cures or prevents a disease.
Do not promote or sell weight-loss drugs, supplements, detoxes or slimming teas.

We remove this content when we find it and we suspend accounts that post it repeatedly. If you are struggling with how you eat, please speak to a doctor or a qualified professional — the app is not built to help with that, and we would rather say so.

5. Treating people properly

Riders, vendors, market traders and support staff are doing a job. Abuse, threats, discrimination or unwanted contact directed at any of them will end your account. Do not contact a rider after a delivery is complete for any reason other than a lost item, and do not ask a rider to do anything outside the order.

If you are a vendor or rider using the Service, you must supply food that meets applicable Nigerian food safety and hygiene requirements, hold whatever registration or licence your activity requires, describe items accurately including allergens, and handle customer information only for the order in hand.

6. Orders, refunds and promotions

Order only for delivery to an address you are entitled to use.
Do not resell items bought through the Service as a retail business without our written agreement.
Promotional codes are for personal use, one per person unless stated, and may not be published, sold or traded.
Do not place orders with no intention of paying for or receiving them.

7. Technical rules

Do not scrape, crawl, harvest or bulk-extract our recipes, ingredient data or prices by any automated means.
Do not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, or attempt to derive its source code.
Do not probe, scan or test the security of our systems, or bypass any authentication, rate limit or access control. If you are a security researcher and have found something, tell us at security@naijabudgeteats.com — we would rather hear from you than from an attacker.
Do not introduce malware, or overload, flood or otherwise disrupt the Service or anyone else's use of it.
Do not use bots, scripts or emulators to interact with the Service, or access it through unofficial clients.
Do not remove, obscure or alter any notice of ownership on the Service.

8. Reporting a problem

Report abuse, unsafe content, an impersonation or a suspected breach to report@naijabudgeteats.com, or through the report option next to the content in the app. Tell us what you saw, where, and when. Security issues go to security@naijabudgeteats.com. Copyright complaints go to legal@naijabudgeteats.com with enough detail to identify the work and the posting.

9. What we do about breaches

Depending on how serious the breach is, how often it has happened and what harm it caused, we may:

Remove or hide the content.
Issue a warning.
Limit features — for example ordering, posting or promotional eligibility.
Suspend the account temporarily.
Terminate the account permanently and refuse future sign-ups.
Withhold or reverse a refund obtained dishonestly, and recover amounts owed.
Report the matter to law enforcement or a regulator where we believe an offence has been committed or someone is at risk.

For serious harm — threats, fraud, content involving minors — we act immediately and without prior warning.

10. Appeals

If we remove your content or restrict your account and you think we got it wrong, write to appeals@naijabudgeteats.com within 30 days. Tell us what happened and why you think the decision was wrong. A person who was not involved in the original decision will review it, and we will give you an answer, normally within 14 days.

11. Changes

We update this policy as the Service grows and as new kinds of abuse appear. The date at the top shows the current version, and material changes are announced the same way as changes to the Terms of Use.
